Dame Fiona Caldicott is the National Data Guardian for Health and Care and Chair of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
In 2016 she published a review of data security and consent and opt-outs. Her previous independent reviews in 1997 and 2013 had considerable influence on the health service and led to the appointment of ‘Caldicott Guardians’ in NHS provider organisations.
During her time at South Birmingham Mental Health NHS Trust, Dame Fiona held several positions: Consultant and Senior Clinical Lecturer in Psychotherapy, Unit General Manager, Clinical Director and Medical Director.
As President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (1993-1996) she was also Chair of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (1995-1996). She was Principal of Somerville College in the University of Oxford from 1996-2010 and served as a Pro-Vice-Chancellor with responsibility for Personnel and Equality.
